Four Races. Four Cities. One Day.

The Daffodil 5K Challenge is a race for our community to come together and get active. The Daffodil Parade is a very unique event that combines four parades in four different cities -- all in one day. It is the celebration of communities young and old. The Parade is in its 83rd year of uniting and promoting Pierce County.

The Daffodil 5K Challenge likewise will be just as unique. The Challenge will take runners through four cities across Pierce County and include each of the parade routes in the process. Four independent 5K races

Run or walk in one city or take the full challenge. Race the clock, or a co-worker. Run as a family, or run to challenge yourself. Run the race, and then stay and enjoy the parade. The day is yours, and this is our community celebration.

All proceeds from this event will go to the Daffodil Festival.

Race Information


Adult Registration fee includes a Nike Dri-Fit t-shirt. To guarantee your t-shirt order, registration must be completed by March 31, 2016. Participants registering after this date may not receive a shirt prior to the race day.

Online registration closes Thursday, April 7th at 11:59 pm.


Running a Single 5k race: $35 until April 9th / $45 on Day of Race

The Challenge - All four races: $80 until April 9th / $95 on Day of Race

Race Day Registration

Race-day registration will be available for 1 hour prior to each start time. Registration includes a t-shirt. Shirt availability is not guaranteed if registering after March 31 or on Race Day.

In-Store Registration

You can register in person at two South Sound Running locations beginning March 3rd up until April 7th. You must pay for the registration with cash or check only. The locations are:

Race Regulations

No pets (leashed or unleashed) allowed on the race course. No roller skates, rollerblades, or skateboards allowed on the course. Strollers are allowed.


The Daffodil 5K Challenge is an officially timed event using a disposable chip timing system. There will be timing clocks at the start and finish line. Results will be posted online within 24 hours.

Overall Awards Ceremony

The awards ceremony will be held in Orting for all Challenge racers. All Challenge racers will be awarded a medal by Daffodil Princesses at the finish line. All Challenge races will have to opportunity to march collectively in the Orting parade behind the Daffodil Festival traveling float.



Results will be posted on the website 5 days after the race.




Q: Is the race course USATF sanctioned?

A. Not in year one of this race. We plan on using the year one experience and the feedback from our volunteers and racers to determine if these courses will be altered for future years. They will be certified in the future.

Q: Is there a course time limit?

A: Yes. You must be clear of the route in 1 hour from the start of the race.

Q: Where and when do I pick up my race packet?

A: All race packets will be available at the South Sound Running stores in Tacoma and Puyallup on April 7th and 8th from 3 pm to 7 pm. The Tacoma store will only have the packets for the racers competing in the Challenge (all four 5K races) or the Tacoma Race only. The Puyallup store will only have the packets for the Puyallup, Sumner, and Orting 5K Races.

Q: Can someone else pick up my packet for me?

A: Yes, please send them to packet pick up with a copy of your registration confirmation.

Q: Will you email me information closer to the event?

A: Yes, we will send an email a week before the event with all of the updated information. Please add to your address book in order to make sure these emails are sent to your inbox.

Q: I can’t make the race, can I get a refund or transfer my entry?

A: No, all participant entries are non-transferable and non-refundable. You may not transfer or sell your race number to another person. The run is supporting two great non-profit organizations that can send you a letter of donation for tax-deduction purposes. Please request your letter too

Q: I can’t make it to the store can you mail me my packet?

A: No. You can have a friend or family member pick up your race packet with a copy of your confirmation email or pick up your packet on race day.

Q: Where are the port-o-pottys located?

A: There will be portable toilets at the start/finish area and along the parade routes on the course.

Q: Timing?

A: The race will be timed using chip technology.

Q: Are strollers, baby carriers or baby backpacks allowed?

A: Yes

Q: Is there an age minimum or maximum?

A: No, The races are open to all ages as long as the participant can race under their own power. They are considered regular participants and there is no price difference.

Q: Are dogs allowed?

A: No, pets are not allowed on the course at any time.

Q: Are bikes allowed?

A: No

Q: Is the race open to walkers?

A: Yes, however please note that all participant must be clear of the course within 1 hour.
